If National Harbor, the D.C. Wharf, Georgetown, Nats Stadium, or Old Town Alexandria are in your upcoming plans, why not try combining two destinations with the Water Taxi?
Now open for the season, the Potomac Riverboat Company’s Water Taxi will run from the Old Town Alexandria Marina (behind the Torpedo Factory) and have a regular route to Georgetown, the D.C. Wharf, Nats stadium (only on game days) and National Harbor. Simply park at one of the stops and buy your tickets online or at the ticket office.
Old Town Alexandria: 0 Cameron Street | Alexandria, VA (behind the Torpedo Factory Art Center)
Georgetown: 3100 K Street NW | Washington, DC
The D.C. Wharf: Transit Pier | 950 Wharf Street SW | Washington, D.C.
National Harbor: 145 National Plaza | National Harbor, MD
How long does it take to get from one stop to the next?
Per the online schedule, trip times vary from 30-45 minutes based on your point of origin. Each starting point has its own schedule, so plan accordingly. Luckily, there’s a handy ticket kiosk with water taxi staff available to answer your questions.
How much are tickets?
Ticket prices start at $10 per adult, $7 per child, and go up from there. Weekends are more expensive than weekdays, and most roundtrip tickets will run $18-$20.
Why is this better than driving to my location?
This is one of the least expensive sight-seeing options going right now. From Old Town to D.C., you’ll have a bird’s-eye view of the bridges, monuments, and tidal basin that you wouldn’t get from on land. Add in the Instagram street cred, and it’s a no-brainer.
The best thing, besides the amazing views, is you can buy your tickets online beforehand and factor the boat ride into a day of sight-seeing. This is ideal during peak cherry blossom time. No more fighting for position with the other jostling tourists — score!
