We all know summers in Washington, D.C., are humid, and hot — and, therefore, sweaty.
But what some of us don’t really know is what to wear for this kind of weather. Most of us still have to go to work, dress somewhat appropriately, and somehow remain well-put-together in the heat.
Well, with these three fashion tips, you’ll be well on your way to feeling a little bit better about summer in Washington, D.C.
Pick the Right Fabric.
During humid summers, you should be sticking with cotton and linen pieces because they tend to be very breathable. They’re also very lightweight so you won’t feel as if there’s a lot of clothing on you. Avoid polyester or heavier fabrics.
Color Is Important, Too.
While, of course, you want to stay away from black or anything dark when it’s super-hot out, you also may want to shy away from colors that can expose your sweat marks. If sweating is inevitable for you, don’t wear clothing in light pink or gray. Maybe try something bright like a yellow or green. They’ll keep you cool, and your pits will thank you.
The worst thing in the dead of summer is wearing something that’s sticky and tight. Go for a flowy maxi dress — yes, it covers your legs, but if you buy it in a nice cotton or linen material, it will feel light and breezy on your skin. Think about pieces that move away from your body, not towards it.
