HBO releases a haunting new teaser for the upcoming final season.
On Sunday night, HBO’s worldwide phenomenon Game of Thrones finally released the first official teaser video for the upcoming final season. Dubbed “The Crypts of Winterfell,” the teaser features three of the remaining Stark children gathered in the tunnels beneath their ancestral home. The teaser was directed by David Nutter, who is also directing three of the show’s final six episodes, and features new original music by the show’s longtime composer, Ramin Djawadi.
While this teaser doesn’t feature actual footage from the new season, it certainly gives viewers the chills while enabling super-fans to begin their wild theories as to what is expected this season.
While in the Crypts, we hear old quotes from previous seasons, including Leanna Stark’s emotional plea to Ned at the end of Season 6 (“You have to protect him”), Catelyn Stark’s personal realization (“This horror that has come to my family, it’s all because I couldn’t love a motherless child”), and Ned Stark’s famous line from the pilot episode in Season 1 (“You are a Stark; you may not have my name, but you have my blood”).
The three Stark children then come upon their own tombs lit by a single flame that quickly goes out when we realize the White Walkers must be near.
The teaser is both beautiful and haunting while giving viewers just another carrot to chew on while we await the first full trailer for the new season.
The one question I immediately had was, Where is Bran? I guess I’ll just have to sit on that one for a while. One thing is for sure: April 14 can’t come soon enough!
